Support > Microsoft Outlook E-mail Settings

Microsoft Outlook is a program that is normally included as part of the Microsoft Office suite. You may also receive a copy of Microsoft Outlook with certain smartphones or PDA's.

Please note, these instructions are relevant to Outlook 2003 but you will find that other versions have very similar options.

How to set-up an etl e-mail address:

  1. Load the program and select TOOLS from the menu, followed by E-MAIL ACCOUNTS.

  2. Click the button next to ADD A NEW E-MAIL ACCOUNTS and press the NEXT > button.

  3. Click the button next to POP3 and press the NEXT > button.

  4. Enter your name (e.g. John Smith) into the YOUR NAME box.

  5. Enter your e-mail address (e.g. john@smith.com) into the E-MAIL ADDRESS box.

  6. Enter your e-mail address again into the USER NAME box.

  7. Enter your e-mail password into the PASSWORD box (please call 01803 505050 if you have lost your password or wish to change it).

  8. Enter 'mail.effing.co.uk' into the Incoming & Outgoing Mail Server boxes.

  9. Click the MORE SETTINGS button.

  10. In the window that opened, enter a friendly name in the MAIL ACCOUNT box (e.g. John's mail).

  11. Click the OUTGOING SERVER tab on the new window that has appeared.

  12. Tick the box next to MY OUTGOING SERVER (SMTP) REQUIRES AUTHENTICATION.

  13. Ensure the button next to the USE SAME SETTINGS AS MY INCOMING MAIL SERVER option is selected.

  14. Press the OK button.

  15. Click the NEXT button.

  16. Click the FINISH button.

Your new e-mail address should now be ready for sending and receiving e-mail.

Setting-up automatic deletion of 'SPAM' when using etl e-mail services:

Please note that for technical reasons it is not unusual for the occasional genuine message to be detected as Spam. For this reason you should regularly check your Junk or Deleted Items folder, particularly if you have apparently failed to receive an e-mail message sent from somebody.
  1. From the TOOLS menu, select RULES AND ALERTS.

  2. Making sure that the E-MAIL RULES tab is selected, click NEW RULE.

  3. Make sure that START CREATING A RULE FROM A TEMPLATE is selected, click MOVE MESSAGES WITH SPECIFIC WORDS IN THE SUBJECT TO A FOLDER.

  4. Click the blue underlined SPECIFIC WORDS and enter the following, exactly as shown: * SPAM * (that's one asterisk, followed by a space, followed by the word SPAM in capital letters, followed by a space, followed by another asterisk). Then click ADD and press OK.

  5. Click the blue underlined SPECIFIED FOLDER and select either JUNK E-MAIL or DELETED ITEMS. If you want to review your spam regularly we recommend you choose the JUNK E-MAIL folder.
  6. Click NEXT at the bottom of the box.
  7. Click NEXT at the bottom of the box.
  8. Click NEXT at the bottom of the box.
  9. Ensure that TURN ON THIS RULE is ticked and press FINISH at the bottom of the box.
  10. Press OK.

This rule will now ensure that any spam detected by the etl mail servers will still be delivered but moved to the folder of your choice for your convenience.
